Better Command Tools

Among the new creativity tools, one is the ability to do Internet searches directly at AutoCAD’s ubiquitous Command line. The process of accessing commands by typing is seen in many long time users. In the last release, Command line underwent substantial changes and its transformation in the AutoCAD is brilliant. AutoCorrect is supported by the Command Line in AutoCAD 2014. The program autocorrects to the most relevant and valid AutoCAD command. If you mistype a command, it does not respond with “Unknown command” instead.

Introduced in AutoCAD 2013, the AutoComplete command entry feature has been enhanced in AutoCAD 2014 to support mid-string search. All commands containing the word SETTINGS will be displayed if you type SETTINGS. Commands in the suggestion list are initially displayed in the order of their usage based on general customer data. The order of commands in the suggestion list adapts to your specific behavior as you continue to use AutoCAD. A built-in synonym list is also resent in the Command line in AutoCAD 2014. if a match is found in the synonym list, it will return the command. AutoCorrect and Synonym lists can be customized using the Edit Alias tool on the Manage ribbon. Two small icons appear so that you can immediately search for more information in the Help system or on the Internet when you move the cursor over a command name or system variable in the Command line suggestion list. The Command line can also be used to access text styles, hatch patterns, layers, dimension styles and so on. System variables and other content are organized into expandable categories to make the suggestion list easier to navigate. You can expand a category to see the results, or press the TAB key to cycle through each category. The behavior of the Command line itself can be customized to enable disable various features. When you use dynamic, you will find most of the Command line functionality available.

Better File Management

It is when you type that the Command line enhancements are only apparent. The first new features you will notice when you start using AutoCAD 2014 are the new drawing file. Across the top of the drawing area, the drawing file tabs appear as a bar. The drawing file tabs can be toggled on and off and when it is enabled, you will notice a tab for each open drawing and by simply clicking on the tab, you can easily switch between drawings.
